Keynote: Confronting Medical Colonialism Against Indigenous Children in Canada

This session will explore anti-Indigenous systemic racism in Canadian health care, medical violence inflicted upon Indigenous children, and the medical establishment’s role in colonial genocide.   

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:

  1. Recognize "medical colonialism" insofar as the role played by physicians and the medical establishment in residential schools.
  2. Identify the structural drivers in the social determinants of health.
  3. Recount the case study of contemporary medical colonialism in Quebec that demonstrates the inequalities in health care follow the fault lines of societal injustices.
